GLASS FUSING
HOW TO FUSE GLASS:
GLASS FUSING IS SIMPLY THE PROCESS
OF STACKING TWO OR MORE LAYERS
OF COMPATIBLE GLASS TOGETHER
TO MAKE A DESIGN, THEN PLACING
THE STACKED GLASS INTO THE KILN
WHERE IT IS FUSED TOGETHER.
STEP ONE: ASSEMBLY
First, pick out a blank surface to start your
glass creation. Next, add components from the
Glass Fusing Center and glue your design in place.
NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED! NO GLASS CUTTING
NECESSARY!
** Beginners classes required for projects requiring
glass cutting. Please call studio for dates and times.
STEP TWO: FLAT FIRING
When you have finished your piece, we will fire it to
approximately 1475 degrees. Then your project is
complete as a tile, trivet, suncatcher, coaster or
decorative art.
Glass projects start at $15.
STEP THREE: SLUMPING
Glass slumping is an add on after you have completed a flat firing. If you want to take your flat glass project and give it dimension, we slump it. It is the process of bending or slumping glass into or over a mold. This is a second firing in the glass kiln and is an additional charge.
To achieve this, we must take your glass through a few heating and cooling phases. There are five steps to this glass slumping process:
#1 - Heating Up the Glass
#2 - Soaking the Glass
#3 - Cooling the Glass
#4 - Annealing the Glass
#5 - Cooling Glass to Room Temperature
Finally you get to take home a truly one of a kind piece of art, artfully designed by you.
